Issues with Deviant Art

Sun Jun 28, 2009, 6:32 PM
Who else is having them?

not my usual complaints about moderators, this is site performance. In most browsers, but especially in Firefox 3 and 3.5, I am having pages not come up. Also having time outs when submitting comments, searches returning blank results, and trouble viewing anyone's sub-galleries.

Anyone else? Oh, and yeah, I can't change the mood on this Journal entry.

:::EDIT 6/28/2009:::

So............. According to the Help Desk... Internet Explorer has known issues with Diviant Art; Multiple ones.

And worse still, it has MORE issues with Adblock Plus for Firefox.

The Moods thing apparently is ongoing across all browsers.

I was told by help desk that this was nothing they could work around.

BULLSHIT.

It means your not willing to write good javascript on either platform. Or WORSE, that you want to force people to unload Adblock to FORCE them to view all the asinine advertisements on this site.

I'd lay dollars to deutschmarks it's a little of both, more of the latter.

Firefox 2-3.5 account for anywhere from 22-25% of all browser traffic. And Adblock is installed on the majority of those browsers... Deviant Art expects me to believe that either they are too incompetent to properly code standard Java; to be compatible with the second most widely used browser in the world and its fairly benign ad blocking program, or that they are indeed trying to force me to view their ads by jacking my browser of choice on purpose. NONE of the other sites, large or small, which I go to, including java-intensive ones such as Linksys's support page and Acer Pan-Am have issues with my very standard browser setups.

Honestly, I am very nearly done with Deviant Art. Between this laxity or extortion, and the ongoing issues that several of my followed artists deal with on a daily basis from crusading moderators, it's not worth my frustration to continue to give them traffic.

I'm writing this edit from Google Chrome simply to get back mopst (but not all) of the functionality that DA is unwilling to make work with Adblock, but I should not have to either reconfigure one browser, or install a THIRD browser just to utilize one freaking site. (I already am running IE 8 as a backup, but as I listed above, it too has multiple known issues with DA)

Please pass this journal along to anyone you know who is having issues with the slobs who have programmed Deviant Art. Honestly, this is a site that people count on, and pay for, on a PROFESSIONAL BASIS, and we're being lied to as consumers either out of laxity or duplicity... is it any wonder people are actively looking for or building competition?

An hour ago I couldn't even enter the site without it looking like a mess. Seems to be better right now, though.

Actually, it's better, but it's still damn slow. Thought it was my connection, but now...

Hmmmm... I use IE6 and now is working fine... Is DA "Microsoft-friendly" only?
